Personal Narrative Project
This project was designed to have us tell a story about ourselves, leaving it up to us what we wanted to design in order to properly convey the narrative. My project centers around living with type 1 diabetes, as that is all I have known since I was four years old. Though I am fortunate as technology has greatly advanced since I was first diagnosed making it that much easier to manage my diabetes. I chose to create a poster illustrating the progression of the changing technology through images while also bringing to light how very often throughout my life people have made comments and remarks that just don’t hold true to the facts of type 1 diabetes. It was usually the same incorrect remarks over and over again voiced in a variation of words, but at the end of the day they did not matter as I knew how to correctly manage my diabetes throughout daily life, in other words I knew how to live with it. I portray this in my poster by pushing these written remarks to the background and having them appear faded. I chose a red monotone color scheme to represent the color of blood as blood is most often the first thing associated with diabetes in regards to the fact that diabetics have to keep their blood sugar in check.
